What is functional medicine?

Functional Medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. It is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century.

By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, Functional Medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. Functional Medicine practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. In this way, Functional Medicine supports the unique expression of health and vitality for each individual.

Do you know what's wrong with me?

Yes!

You have malfunctions at the root of your health complaints which we can identify using functional lab work. Most clients have no idea what is causing their health complaints and neither do their doctors. Many people have been chasing their symptoms for years because other providers can’t find the cause or don’t bother to even look for it. FDN health detectives use functional diagnostic lab work to identify malfunctions at the causal level and engage our clients in a healing process.

Can you help me?

Yes!

As long as you are as committed to restoring your health as I am. I’m here for all the right reasons. FDN protocols are based on healing opportunities, not treating symptoms. It takes time to rebuild, repair or restore normal function to one’s cells, organs or systems. Balancing body chemistry, detoxification, improving digestion and assimilation and immune boosting each come with challenges that require persistence and possible course corrections. Restoring hormone balance may happen soon in some people and take more time in others due to our own unique response to our own chronic stress factors.

Have you helped others like me?

Yes!

The FDN system and practitioners have helped thousands of people reach their best level of health in many years. Many clients have completely resolved their health conditions even if they were previously diagnosed with serious medical conditions. There are over 500 FDN health detectives in 30 countries helping thousands and thousands of people. I have seen clients reverse medical conditions and eliminate the use of pharmaceutical drugs.

Where are you located?

I am located in Phoenix, AZ.  However, I work with people from all over the USA virtually.  I use email, phone, and Skype for communication.  Clients love having our consultations in the comfort of their own homes!

How long will it take me to feel better?

This all depends on how long you’ve felt this way and your genetic ability to adapt.  I have helped clients feel 100% in 3 months.  The typical time to feel better, with 100% commitment to the plan, is within 3-4 months. For your healing journey to become complete, it usually takes 6-18 months.

What happens after the initial program?

The journey to health and healing can be a long road.  We will start with a 3-, 6- or 9-month program to lay the foundation and ground work for a lifetime of wellness and feeling great.  After your program is complete, you will have a “what’s next” conversation with me to uncover where you REALLY want to go with your health.  We then create a customized plan for a continued coaching program that meets your individual needs.

Do you use medications?

No.  I am not a physician.  We will be using the best supplements and nutrition plans for your specific needs.  That said, I have a network of Naturopathic physicians that can prescribe if needed.

Do you accept insurance?

The short answer is:

Well, it depends on the kind of insurance you have, and I don’t do any insurance billing. So you have to pay for my services like any other personal service or product and then hope to get reimbursed by your insurance company.

The more detailed answer:

First, practitioners who sign insurance company contracts often discover that they can’t deliver optimum care. Instead, care is rationed. Patients must be dismissed before they are fully healed. Many necessary services aren’t even covered, especially in the area of prevention, nutrition, and functional lab testing. Limiting care is profitable for the insurance company, but it can compromise patient satisfaction and my reputation.

To maximize profit, insurance companies hire people to review our recommendations. Most of these “gatekeepers” lack even a working knowledge of functional medicine or clinical nutrition. It may even amount to “practicing medicine without a license”.

Worse, most insurance companies seem more interested in paper than patients. Huge amounts of paperwork are often required. It is time-consuming, raises costs and takes me away from my primary mission of helping my patients and clients get and stay well. And insurance company contracts also attempt to govern how we run our businesses.

Your health is your most valuable possession. Please don’t gamble with it by choosing a practitioner who may try to serve two masters, or who was merely the lowest bidder.
